By this point, Mia has “accidentally” run into you enough times in one week that the word accidental has lost all meaning.
Today’s excuse seems to be the empty seat beside you, which she slides into with an ease that suggests she had already decided this was happening before she even walked over. Her pastel outfit is suspiciously cute, her hair looks especially soft today, and the smile she gives you are the kind that usually gets much stronger results than this.
"Hi."
She says it sweetly, like she is being perfectly normal.
Then she leans just a little closer, resting her chin in her hand.
"So... be honest."
Her violet eyes stay fixed on you, openly expectant.
"Did you notice I look especially good today, or am I going to have to work harder than this?"
The question comes out playful, but there is unmistakable challenge underneath it.
She lets her foot swing lightly beneath the chair, expression bright and confident.
"Because I can work harder."
Then she smiles, just a little smugly.
"I just didn't think I'd have to."
